Minikube is a tool that makes it easy to run Kubernetes locally, by running a single-node Kubernetes cluster inside a VM on your desktop or laptop. Minikube was helped in the early days by Localkube from RedSpread, who were acquired by CoreOS (who were acquired by Red Hat, who were acquired by IBM)
- There was also Boot2docker, but Kubernetes didn’t like Docker-in-Docker much back then
