The belief that one must be "good enough"—attractive, mature, and put-together—to deserve love creates a cycle of self-abandonment and a desperate need for control. This narrative often leads to settling for unsuitable partners in an attempt to "fix" them, thereby validating one's own worth through the act of saving others. True connection, however, requires surrendering the need for control and accepting the vulnerability of being fully seen. By embracing the emotional overwhelm of love rather than attempting to manage or intellectualize it, one can stop violating their own boundaries. A functional relationship emerges not from achieving a state of perfection, but from the mutual willingness to remain present in the heartbreak of reality without sacrificing one's selfhood or resorting to emotional manipulation to maintain connection.
