RECONsider... Movement Variability with Bill Hartman | Episode #15
Reconsider... with Bill Hartman
Fitness jargon often obscures the actual intent of movement, creating an illusion of shared understanding that leads to ineffective, one-size-fits-all solutions. Rather than chasing rigid ideals like "neutral spine" or "glute activation," the focus should shift toward movement variability and adaptability. Because human movement cannot be perfectly replicated, success lies in possessing a wide range of options to achieve consistent outcomes under varying constraints. True progress requires managing trade-offs rather than applying reductionist fixes, as every intervention carries secondary consequences. By reverse engineering a client's current movement limitations—working backward from their present state to identify the specific strategies they rely on—coaches can better restore lost capabilities. This approach prioritizes functional intent and long-term adaptability over the superficial application of popular but often meaningless industry terminology.
