How Do I Reclaim My Schedule? (w/ Laura Vanderkam) | Monday Advice
Deep Questions with Cal Newport
The prevailing narrative of time scarcity often masks the reality that most people possess more free time than they realize. Shifting from a mindset of chaos to one of a "ringmaster" allows individuals to manage complex lives through intentional weekly planning and established "house rules" that automate routine decisions. Rather than seeking massive swaths of empty time, true time abundance comes from filling one's schedule with meaningful, high-quality activities that provide a sense of agency. Large goals are best achieved by breaking them into small, consistent steps, such as listening to classical music during a daily commute or reading a single chapter of a book each day. Ultimately, feeling overwhelmed stems less from the volume of obligations and more from a lack of control, making it possible to lead a full, intentional life without needing to simplify one's circumstances drastically.
