Rational Dissent Episode 012. What the 'K' is Going on?

Podcast cover

Bianco Research

The U.S. economy currently functions as a K-shaped divide, where headline data like record stock market highs and low unemployment mask a pervasive affordability crisis for the majority of citizens. While the top decile of earners benefits from asset appreciation, the bottom half remains trapped by wage growth that consistently lags behind cumulative inflation. This bifurcation is exacerbated by massive government deficit spending, which fuels inflation and leaves the economy vulnerable to market shocks. Because the stock market now serves as the primary engine for both retirement security and consumer spending, any significant downturn threatens to destabilize the entire system. Addressing this requires curbing reckless fiscal policy, as current deficit levels—historically reserved for existential crises—are unsustainable and continue to erode purchasing power for those most sensitive to price increases.
